Program Type: 3-day Elective on Universal Design
Location: Vadodara, Gujarat
Date: 27th-29th September 2024
Project Description:
In a significant step toward integrating inclusivity into design education, the School of Environmental Design and Architecture (SEDA) at Navrachana University introduced a three-day elective on Universal Design, led by Ar. Shivani Shah, Founder of Sensory ALL, in September 2024.
Attended by 4th and 5th-year architecture and design students, the course provided an immersive learning experience that fostered self-awareness, empathy, and a deeper understanding of accessibility.
Through hands-on activities and interactive discussions, students challenged preconceived notions about inclusivity, engaged with the lived experiences of individuals with disabilities, and explored the impact of respectful language and universal design principles in shaping equitable spaces.
Their key takeaways reflected a strengthened commitment to inclusive design, a readiness to embrace challenges, and a dedication to growing as empathetic and responsible professionals.
